ELIZA BOOM

New Zealand soprano Eliza Boom is a current member of the Bayerische Staatsoper Ensemble, having previously trained in the Opera Studio for two years. Prior to moving to Munich, she studied at the National Opera Studio in London, and the Royal Northern College of Music on their International Artist Diploma and Master of Music in Performance programmes. In New Zealand, Eliza studied music at the University of Waikato and Vision College. Eliza was a finalist and prize winner at the 2022 International Stanisław Moniuszko Vocal Competition. Her other competition successes include the Richard Bonynge Award (2nd place) at the Joan Sutherland and Richard Bonynge Bel Canto Award (2019), the Les Azuriales International Singing Competition (winner, 2018), the Frederic Cox Award (winner, 2018), and the Lexus Song Quest (2nd place, 2018). 


During her time at the Bayerische Staatsoper, Eliza has performed the roles of Woglinde (Das Rheingold), Erste Dame (Die Zauberflöte), Berta (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Priestess (Aïda), Soprano (Singularity, M. Srnka), and Herzogin Marie (Il Signor Bruschino), amongst others. She also premiered the role of Soprano in Miroslav Srnka’s opera Singularity and Vito Žuraj’s Buch der Körper; a piece for soprano and chamber orchestra conducted by Vladimir Jurowski. Eliza’s other performed roles include Donna Anna (Don Giovanni, Clonter Opera), Thérèse/Tirésias (Les Mamelles de Tirésias, Les Azuriales Opera), Micäela (Carmen, cover, Bayerische Staatsoper), Nella (Gianni Schicchi, RNCM), the title role of Suor Angelica (cover, RNCM), Mimì (La Bohème, scenes, Welsh National Opera and Nottingham Philharmonic Orchestra), Noémie (Cendrillon, RNCM), Gertrude (Hansel and Gretel, RNCM), Juliette (Roméo et Juliette, selected scenes in concert), Countess (Le Nozze di Figaro, University of Waikato) and Laetitia (The Old Maid and the Thief, University of Waikato). 


Some of Eliza’s concert engagements have included Four Last Songs, Ein Deutsches Requiem, Missa in Angustiis, Petite Messe Solennelle and Vesperae solennes de confessore. Most recently, Eliza played the role of Flora Tosca in 7 Deaths of Maria Callas, an opera project by Marina Abramović at Royal Theater Carré in Amsterdam. The 22/23 season sees Eliza singing Erste Dame at the Bayerische Staatsoper, and making her debuts at Staatsoper Stuttgart (Woglinde, Götterdämmerung and Das Rheingold) and Staatsoper Hannover (Pat Nixon, Nixon in China). Eliza will also return to New Zealand in October 2023 to perform Strauss’ Vier letzte Lieder with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra.
